Poorer, developing countries bearing the brunt of climate change want wealthier nations causing the majority of emissions to compensate them for the loss and damage caused by climate change. COP 27 has this issue on the formal agenda for the first time. Scientific developments have allowed researches to quantify the role that global warming plays in disasters, which bolsters the argument that wealthy nations bear the majority of the responsibility.
